Our proposals for Sandown

Updating you on the construction of Sandown Premier Inn

We’re building an exciting new Premier Inn hotel on Sandown seafront.

This website is to provide updates during the construction period.

As we invest and transform the site of the old Carlton Hotel into a brand new Premier Inn, we’re keen to keep everyone with an interest in the site and The Esplanade informed.

Click through to the ‘What’s happening on site?’ page to find out more.  We’ll update this page regularly with details on the construction timetable and what our main contractor will be doing month on month.

The basics

  • Whitbread is building a brand new 100-bedroom Premier Inn hotel plus Cookhouse + Pub restaurant, investing £10 million into building the new facilities
  • The new Premier Inn and Cookhouse + Pub restaurant is expected to employ approximately 60 people at the busiest time of the year (with recruitment focused in the local area)
  • Whitbread owns the freehold – it is looking to invest for the long term
  • Site preparation started in 2017 including demolition of the old Carlton Hotel
  • The new Premier Inn and Cookhouse + Pub is scheduled to open at the end of November. Further details will be confirmed closer to the time

Jobs and recruitment

Whenever we build a new hotel, we recruit locally.  We work with local agencies and organisations including Job Centre Plus.

Whitbread focuses on providing opportunities for all.  We work hard to encourage applications from people who are not in education, employment or training as well as those looking to return to work following a break.

Recruitment for the new roles hasn’t started yet and typically starts around three months before the  scheduled opening date.

When recruitment starts we’ll put links and further information here.

In the meantime, information on job opportunities at Whitbread can be found here: http://www.whitbreadcareers.com/
