Updating you on the construction of Sandown Premier Inn

We’re building an exciting new Premier Inn hotel on Sandown seafront.

This website is to provide updates during the construction and pre-opening period.

As we invest and transform the site of the old Carlton Hotel into a brand new Premier Inn, we’re keen to keep everyone with an interest in the site and The Esplanade informed.

The basics

  • Whitbread is investing £10 million in a brand new 100-bedroom Premier Inn hotel plus Cookhouse + Pub restaurant on the Esplanade in Sandown
  • Whitbread owns the freehold – it is looking to invest for the long term
  • Site preparation started in 2017 including demolition of the old Carlton Hotel
  • The new Premier Inn is set to open to guests staying for work, education, or other legally permitted reasons on Friday 26 February, in line with Government regulations and public health advice on Covid-19. You can book to stay at the hotel via the Premier Inn website
  • The opening date of the Cookhouse & Pub restaurant will be confirmed ahead of the popular summer months
  • Whitbread is committed to recruiting locally for the new hotel and restaurant (further details below)

Jobs and recruitment

Whenever we build a new hotel, we recruit locally.  We work with local agencies and organisations including Job Centre Plus.

Whitbread focuses on providing opportunities for all.  We work hard to encourage applications from people who are not in education, employment or training as well as those looking to return to work following a break.

Whitbread has been working with the local Job Centre Plus to recruit an initial 20 new jobs for the Premier Inn hotel.  Further roles, including for the new restaurant, will be recruited once travel restrictions are lifted and the Cookhouse + Pub is able to open.

Applications are being accepted via the Job Centre Plus and online via the Whitbread Careers website.
